Intriguing Page Turner

Intriguing Page Turner The Haunting is the seventh book in Kathi Daley’s awesome Seacliff High Mystery series and is an intriguing page-turner with the protagonist working on multiple mysteries. This fast-paced book has an interesting plot that involves teenagers solving mysteries, as well as a great storyline and excellent character development. I love Ms. Daley’s writing style; there is always a strong message of the value of friendships, family, and community while incorporating intriguing mysteries. I highly recommend this series to readers of all ages who enjoy a good, clean mystery. Alyson Prescott and her mother, Sarah, were forced to enter the Witness Protection program when Alyson’s best friend was murdered after the young girls witnessed a gangland murder. She had to leave her father, her friends, and life as she knew it back in New York, and she still worried that the Bonatello brothers would find her. Alyson began experiencing strange things after they moved to Cutter’s Cove, including sensing, seeing and hearing ghosts, and her visions have given her key clues in solving mysteries. Five months ago, her handler, Donovan, whisked Alyson and Sarah away from their new life after an unconfirmed tip threatened their lives. Four months ago, mother and daughter made the decision to return to Cutter’s Cove, Oregon, along with Tucker, her German shepherd, and Shadow, the cat she bonded with on Madrona Island who can see or sense ghosts. The day after their return, Alyson started having nightmares where she finds herself standing on the porch of a dilapidated house, paralyzed with fear and hesitant to enter, and the terror and helplessness have extended to her waking hours. Caleb Wellington is the event chairperson for the Haunted Hayride fundraiser sponsored each year by Seacliff High’s drama department and he asks Alyson to look around to see if the house is haunted because things are being moved around, some props are being cut into little pieces, and graffiti kept appearing on the walls. When Alyson and her two best friends, Mackenzie Reynolds and Trevor Johnson, enter the house, she sees two ghosts, but doesn’t think they’re responsible for the strange things taking place in the house. The trio discovers human remains in a hidden room and they want to find out what happened to them so they can move on. Officer Woody Baker, who is new to the force, is one of the responding officers and he agrees to share information with her. Alyson also agrees to help another student, Chelsea Green, reveal the stalker who is e-mailing and texting her photographs of herself.

Read and get in the mood for Halloween!

Halloween is approaching and Alyson and her friends are preparing for a Halloween Hayride and party. In the process of decorating an old empty house they discover 2 coffins with bodies inside. The house becomes a crime scene and Alyson and friends try to solve the mystery of who the bodies are. Let me warn you that Alyson has been know to see and communicate with a ghost or two. She has also been asked by a fellow classmate to find who has been stalking her. This makes for a busy fast moving story. A fantastic read to get in the Halloween Mood! You must read this book to find out the rest including big news for Alyson! THIS SERIES IS GETTING WITH EVERY BOOK. Kathi Daley continues to provide us with books to keep us hooked to her series!

“Seacliff High: The Haunting” earns 5+/5 Secret Passages & Secret Rooms!

Life goes on…Alyson Prescott has returned to Cutter’s Cove, Oregon, after a scare her location and identity within the Witness Protection Program had been compromised and her life was in danger. But, for the past four months, she has been having disturbing nightmares, and her friends hosting the annual Haunted Hayride are having problems with vandalism, and the popular cheerleader pleads for help with a potential ‘stalker.’ Joined by her BFF Mac and BFF2 Trevor to offer their support, even if it means exploring a dark and scary secret passage, Alyson senses great sadness leading her to believe a ghost needs her assistance. And despite hacking and interrogating several students the stalker is still a mystery. She approaches Chan at Chan’s Occult Shop about her restless nights and receives cryptic advice. Just another day in Alyson’s life… Wow! Although first introduced in 2015, I only recently became a big fan of Kathi Daley’s Seacliff High: Secret identities, witness protection, and ghosts? Who wouldn’t be a fan of that! But, don’t be fooled by the fact that the characters are high schoolers, now seniors to be exact, they are not silly. And although high school angst (football games, boyfriend issues, final exams) do play a part, they are skilled, smart, and have enough independence from the adults that you almost forget they’re minors. Kathi weaves together with delightful entertainment the contemporary issues of a young lady being held incognito in Witness Protection shielding her from those who wish her harm and the paranormal events surrounding her ability to ‘see ghosts’ which she only acquired after arriving in Cutter’s Cove. Again, Kathi has succeeded to make Alyson’s story realistic and engaging, not juvenile hocus pocus: Stalkers? Skeletons? Halloween fun to be sure! These books are standalones, so you can enter the series with any one of them, including this new release that I highly recommend. The ghostly mystery and often the additional more earthly investigation are concluded, but the underlying worry for her need for secrecy weaves through and will continue. If you like jumping into the deep end, you’ll be greatly entertained. If you like wading in slowly and getting all the background and character connections first, then you can read the previous six books quickly since they are all less than 250 pages. I greatly enjoyed this book, and you will, too!

Another Great Installment

The Haunting Seacliff High, Book #7 Kathi Daley 5 Stars Synopsis: Alyson Prescott moves to Cutters Cove, Oregon, after being placed, along with her mother, in the witness protection program. In her previous life, Alyson was an A-list heiress with the excitement of a trend setting lifestyle and the security of old money. After witnessing a murder she is forced to leave her old life behind and become a middle class girl, living in a middle class town. Alyson struggles with the duplicity in her life as she strives to reconcile her new life with the old. In this seventh book in the series, the gang from Seacliff High are busy planning their annual Haunted Hayride. When strange things begin to happen Alyson suspects the house they have selected to host the party at the end of the hayride might actually be haunted. Alyson decides to pay a visit to the mischievous ghosts who are causing such a ruckus only to find that the ghosts who live there are not at all who she expected to find. Alyson sets out to discover how the ghosts came to be there, how they died, and who killed them in a mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end. (Goodreads) Review: The characters are well developed and well rounded. Alyson, along with her friends Mac and Trevor, are really good friends and make a great team. They are not afraid to investigate any of the strange things that are happening in Cutters Cove. And Tucker and Shadow, Alyson’s dog and cat, are always there to help them investigate and they are very helpful. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick easy ready. Not only is the author talented in her character development (they are always people that I would like to be friends with), she is also very talented in her descriptive writing. While reading the book I felt like I was right there, walking through the haunted house myself. There is more than one mystery to solve in this book, which is the norm in this author’s books. Who is vandalizing the haunted house (human or ghostly), who is stalking Chelsea and whose bones are hidden in the haunted house? All of the mysteries have plenty of clues to sift through and building suspense until the end of the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I really enjoyed the paranormal aspects of this book and I am sure that you will too.

A very well thought out series

Skeletons, ghosts and multiple mysteries populate this edge of your seat story. There is even a zombie (costume) thrown in for good measure. I love this time of year! Nightmares mix with foreboding psychic visions keeping Alyson from being her usual vibrant self. Alyson and her mother have been in hiding after Alyson witnessed a mob killing. Fearing her new identity had been discovered they were recently on the run again. She made new friends but can't reveal her past or risk putting them in danger. Will she be able to keep her best friends when this school term ends? As if teen years are not stressful enough. Haunted houses in a Kathi Daley series are my favorite but are always doomed. I would both love to be on the haunting staff and be terrified about what could happen. Knowing there are caves and tunnels around Cutter's Cove opens up more options for danger. It is in a tunnel that a gruesome discovery is made. The spirits involved are so intense even less sensitive persons can feel their grief. This story reaches maximum emotional capacity. Along with finding skeletons and not knowing if the haunted house can open, while looking over her own shoulder for hitmen, a cheerleader believes she is being stalked and turns to Alyson for help. A very action packed week full of puzzles to solve. Who has time for quizzes and midterms? Wonderful characters make me feel involved in their daily lives. I was holding my breath waiting to find out what would be behind the door and what the friends will be able to do about college. The stalker issue brought to light more about Chelsea and her less than ideal life. You never know what other people are dealing with. The parallels in each storyline affected my emotions. A very well thought out series.

Perfect Halloween Cozy Mystery

The Haunting is the 7th book in the Seacliff High series by Kathi Daley. Awesome is the one word that encompasses this Halloween story. Ms. Daley has penned a Halloween mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat as you quickly turn the pages to learn what is going to happen next. Although this series has been marketed for young adults, cozy mystery aficionados of all ages will quickly be drawn in to this well-crafted story with a paranormal component. Alyson and her mom, Sarah, have returned to Cutter’s Creek, although they have no idea if their return will be permanent short lived or deadly! Will the Bonatello brothers would find them? The Haunting has multiple mysteries that run parallel to each other and require exploration and resolution by Allyson and her friends at Seacliff High. This journey starts as the team work to set up the annual Haunted House and hayride. When they tour the house, they are shocked to find vandalism, two skeletons, and secret passages. How and when did the skeletons get there? Who is defacing the house? What secrets lay behind sealed doors and within secret passages? Worse yet, who is stalking another student and why? I’m hoping this series continues as Allyson and her friends prepare for graduation and lives beyond Seacliff High. I highly recommend this book to readers of all ages seeking a true Halloween cozy mystery.

Hauntingly Good

Alyson has been back in Cutters Cove for several months now but is still worried that she will be found by the horrible men looking for her. She has also been having a reoccurring nightmare that she can't shake or figure out its meaning. She's ready to drop from all the worry and no sleep when classmate Chelsea approaches her to ask for help with a stalker. When friend Caleb asks for help with what he thinks is a ghost at the Haunted Hayride Alyson and friends Mac and Trevor go into full investigative mode. While looking into Celebs ghost problem they come across two skeletons, one a child, and things become more complicated. Who is stalking Chelsea? Who murdered the two people they found? What is her nightmare trying to tell her? Alyson still can't forget her own worries and wonders if she will have to hide for the rest of her life. Follow along as Alyson tries to answer these questions. I loved how this didn't feel like a young adult book but just a great mystery. I hope to read more about Alyson, her friends, and the mysteries they get involved in.

Important Addition To The Series

Spoiler Free Review: This is the 7th in the Seacliff High Series. This is technically a YA series but I think most of Kathi's loyal readers follow this series as well. Like all of Kathi's books it is well plotted, well written and well edited and a clean read. The series follows an older teenager that is in the witness protection program and has discovered she has some paranormal abilities. That is she can see ghosts. Kathi manages this well though. The stories are plausible and entertaining and have and are well grounded in the human condition. The stories are set on the Oregon coast and Alyson/Amanda has developed a reputation as a clear thinker and a problem solver. She has also developed a loyal set of friends and has a couple of talented pets. Characters are well drawn and likeable and story arc provides a complete mystery in each book with enough background information that the books do not need to be read in order. However when you have a bit of OCD like I do why would you want to read them out of order. This book is an important one to the series as she has set up for the characters to move forward into adulthood and for the books to bridge the YA / Adult gap. Kathi writes a number of series, all are entertaining clean reads.

The Haunting

The Haunting ( Seacliff High Book 7 ) By: Kathy Daley The Haunting is book seven in The Seacliff High Series. I really loved The Haunting and hope there will be a number eight to the series.

Hunting the Haunting

Kathi’s characters are always well developed and this again, is the case of The Haunted. Alyson, with her friends Mac and Trevor, make a great team and are not afraid to investigate any of the strange things that are happening in Cutters Cove. Along with her friends are the 4 legged furry friends to help, also. This book is a quick and easy read but that does not take away from the reader’s enjoyment.. While reading the book you feel as if you are in the house with them. There is more than one mystery which Kathi if famous for doing in her books. Someone is vandalizing and also stalking Chelsea…but who and why? The author offer plenty of clues for the reader to sift through which only adds to the enjoyment for we mystery buffs. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a cozy mystery. Kathi is truly the “Queen of Cozy”, in my opinion…….
